I’m really not sure if all the images of jazz musicians that I title or think of as 40’s are really 40’s. Some maybe 50’s. Or maybe you can tell me 🙂 ….Some I put “Original’ in the title just because my first remembrances of them where, well, some of Stan’s original conceptions.
Piano 40′s or Old Trumpet Pants are just a couple that come to mind quickly. A bunch come from the same era I think, although it’s hard for me to remember when particular images were drawn and painted. I say drawn and painted, because most started as line drawings and later were water colored. in any case, the progression is probably very interesting, in the sense that you can tell a lot about a person by his or her personal growth, if you can draw a straight line (no pun intended) through it.
The moral of this short story I suppose is that with Stan Glassman one probably can’t tell when certain drawings, paintings, caricatures, musings were created. Some as early as the early 1940′ s in college others in the 2010’s. And I suppose to some, a lot have a very similar feel or expression. And that’s ok. I know Woody Allen has said many times that he makes the same film over and over….I guess, even the most talented among us are just trying to ‘get it right‘…
